The Selfish Giant

The giant felt sorry as

he looked out.

দৈত্যটি বাইরে তাকিয়ে দুঃখিত অনুভব করল।

"How selfish I have been!" he said to himself.

“আমি কতটা স্বার্থপর ছিলাম!” সে নিজেই বলল।

"Now I know why the spring would not come here."

“এখন আমি জানি কেন বসন্ত এখানে আসেনি।”

So, he quickly went out into the garden.

তাই সে দ্রুত বাগানে বেরিয়ে গেল।

But when the children saw him they were so frightened that they all ran away, and the garden became winter again.

কিন্তু শিশুরা তাকে দেখে এত ভয় পেয়ে গেল যে সবাই পালিয়ে গেল, আর বাগান আবার শীতকাল হয়ে গেল।

Only the little boy did not run, for his eyes were so full of tears that he did not see the giant coming.

কেবল ছোট ছেলেটি দৌড়ায়নি, কারণ তার চোখ অশ্রুতে ভরে গিয়েছিল এবং সে দৈত্যটিকে আসতে দেখেনি।

The giant quietly came behind him, took him gently in his hands and put him up in the tree.

দৈত্যটি ধীরে ধীরে তার পেছনে এল, তাকে আলতোভাবে হাতে নিল এবং গাছে বসাল।

And the tree at once broke into blossom, and the birds came and sang on it.

এবং গাছটি সঙ্গে সঙ্গে ফুলে ভরে উঠল, আর পাখিরা এসে গাইতে লাগল।

The little boy stretched out his two arms, flung them round the giant’s neck and kissed him.

ছোট ছেলেটি তার দুই হাত বাড়িয়ে দৈত্যের গলায় জড়িয়ে ধরল এবং চুমু খেল।

The other children saw this. They saw that the giant was not wicked any longer.

অন্য শিশুরা এটা দেখল। তারা দেখল যে দৈত্যটি আর খারাপ নেই।

So, they came running back. And with them came the spring.

তাই তারা দৌড়ে ফিরে এল। আর তাদের সঙ্গে বসন্তও ফিরে এল।

"It’s your garden now, little children," said the giant.

“এখন এটা তোমাদের বাগান, ছোট ছোট শিশুদের,” দৈত্য বলল।

Then he took a huge axe and knocked the wall down.

তারপর সে একটি বিশাল কুড়াল নিল এবং দেয়ালটি ভেঙে ফেলল।

And the people passing by found the giant playing with the children in the most beautiful garden in the country.

আর পথচলতি লোকেরা দেখল দৈত্যটি শিশুদের সঙ্গে দেশের সবচেয়ে সুন্দর বাগানে খেলছে।
